What the tap speed test measures
The tap speed test counts every tap you make in a fixed 30-second window. Your headline score is total taps. Underneath it you get taps per second (TPS), your best one-second burst, and a consistency figure that shows how evenly you kept pace from the first second to the last.
It is a test of finger speed, rhythm and endurance rather than reaction. Most people start fast and fade in the final ten seconds, so the difference between a good score and a great one is usually how well you hold your rhythm, not how quickly you begin.
How to get a higher score
- Use one finger and keep the movement tiny. Big movements waste time.
- Find a rhythm you can hold for the full 30 seconds instead of sprinting the first five.
- Rest your hand or wrist on something solid so only the finger moves.
- Play again straight away. Second and third attempts are almost always faster.
Browser scores are practice scores. To post a verified score to the world leaderboard, play Classic mode in the TAPP app.
Questions
What is a good tap speed?
Most people land between 5 and 7 taps per second over 30 seconds. Sustaining 7 or more TPS, which is around 210 taps, is a strong result, and 9 TPS or more puts you in rare company. See the benchmarks page for the full bands.
Is tap speed the same as reaction time?
No. Tap speed is how many taps you can make in a set time, measured in taps per second. Reaction time is how quickly you respond to a single signal, measured in milliseconds. TAPP has a separate reaction time test.
Does the tap speed test work on desktop?
Yes. On a desktop the same test counts mouse clicks or spacebar presses, and the score is shown as clicks per second. The click speed test page is tuned for mouse users.
Why is my browser score not on the leaderboard?
Browser tests are for practice and cannot be verified. The TAPP app checks each run so the global leaderboard only contains genuine scores.
