CPS, explained
CPS means clicks per second. It is the mouse equivalent of taps per second: the number of successful clicks you make each second over the length of the test. On a touchscreen the same test measures taps, and the score is labelled TPS instead.
Click speed depends on your mouse, your grip and your technique as much as your hand. A light switch and a relaxed grip usually beat a heavy click and a tense wrist. Ten seconds is the most common format for comparing scores; thirty seconds is a much better test of endurance.
Tips for a higher CPS
- Keep the pointer on the target. Clicks outside it don't count.
- Rest your palm and let one finger do the work.
- You can also use the spacebar. The test counts either input.

What is a good CPS?
Around 6 clicks per second is typical with normal single-finger clicking. Above 8 CPS over 10 seconds is quick. Very high numbers usually involve techniques like jitter or butterfly clicking rather than ordinary clicking.
Does this test work on a phone?
Yes. On touch devices the same test counts taps and shows your score as taps per second.
Why does my CPS drop over 30 seconds?
Fatigue and rhythm. Short bursts are easy to sustain; over 30 seconds most people slow noticeably, which is why the 30-second format is the one used for the TAPP leaderboard.
